Now, I read somewhere that someone said that they hated FIFA because of its inability to let one express themselves on the field. I agree with this person up to a point. I have been an avid fan of the PES series for about 5 years now, and since my Winning Eleven cherry popped I was hooked. I was just a freshman in college when my roommate introduced me to it. Up until the introduction we constantly had battles over which football simulator was better, keep in mind I never played Winning Eleven. These arguments were quickly halted with his acquisition of a modified playstation and a burnt copy of the game, and I’ve been a slave ever since. That is until this year, when I made the decision not to invest in pro evolution but to revert to my gaming roots and buy the FIFA’09. This proved to be a major turning point for me.
Pro used to be the total footballing game, not following FIFA and getting their backing from pretty graphics and nice uniforms, but rather from true to life gameplay and a ridiculously in-depth team management system. Sometimes after playing WE, I would go out onto the football field and try to emulate exactly how I played in the game. WE also introduced gamers to a new way of thinking when it came to football. You learnt to analyse your opponents style of play and come up with ways to neutralise it. Winning Eleven really made its mark with all these great advances in gaming. But then it began to go wrong.
Last year’s release for the PS3 was not up to par. the game felt more t home on the PS2 than the PS3, but we all wrote it off as Konami just getting accustomed to the true power of the next gen consoles. FIFA on the other hand has learned from WE and has managed to merge most of the qualities that made WE such a great game with it’s own blend of presentation and flair. After last year’s WE release, I was still a bit sceptical about FIFA, even though I considered switching sides. This year though, I’m glad I did. FIFA might still hold a lot of it’s mundane, some players playing like robots, tag. But overall the game has come leaps and bounds. It’s game play is a lot more believable now. The team at EA has gotten everything from the weather to the way the ball travels faster on wet grass down. They deserve a standing ovation for player dynamics as well. PES hasn’t really gained much on it’s previous releases. They have tried to make the players too free. Adding a lot of unnecessary stuff and removing a lot of the stuff that past fans have grown so accustomed to. For example, a simple thing like manual switching has been altered. I HATE IT. FIFA has manual switching now. I RATE IT.
On the licence front, I didn’t expect much from PE. What I did expect though, is that once they got the licence for the Champions’ League, that they would have all the teams that are taking part in this year’s competition. They only have a handful. BIG STEUPSSS!!! At least try to keep past licences and build on what you have acquired every year, at least. FIFA doesn’t have these problems.
In conclusion, as much as it hurts me to say it, EA has the better title this year. I am still a big fan of the Pro Evolution series of games, but they need to make some drastic overhauling if they are to catch the FIFA train. So yet again I’m left hoping that the next release will be another classic like Winning Eleven 6.

The question that needs to be answered by this bloger is weather he has taken his time to appreciate both games?Sure someone making such harsh comments about the pes 09 must have a copy or have it in close proximity to make such a judgement call.First of all I will address the issue of the manual control.
Manual has been truelly lost by the pes and this is terrible,it is a feature which has intrigued me from its' conspection, it turely gives one a unquie feel n a closest to the game. Now with semi assieted as they have developed one can feel detacted from the game play. The truth is however that fifa has never had manual.Surely anyone playing the game would see certain players jumping and skiping over players when being tackled.
If the pes has to be critised let the critaism be based on the problems it always had,not the issuse of preety uniforms n rights but the fact that who ever is creating the game has no idea when it comes to stats.Reina who is nicked named the king of clean sheets in the Bpl keeping skills is under 80 for the las 3 years!!!! surely someone from kodami needs to retify this problem as well Robbie kean being faster that torres surely anyone having any knowledge in football would know that is this an insult to any ones intelligence and for what ever reason if u happen to come accrose viere if you have played any pes you would know u are already down a goal.
As I see it I will call it. This year for someone turely into football n its dynamics FiFa is the way to go as expressed by the bloger the passing is realitics and the chances gotten by any player on the pitch are as well, the main critaism would be that it is being very similir to madden but it has not cross the line into that relem tottaly.
Fifa only this year can be said to truely challenged pes however i am sure the makers of pes would only respond with even more insane realistic features.Let us not forget that fifa has basically copyed almost all the modern advancements in the game from pes e.g 1-2 , takin the keeper out for beers, realistic game play.
For people purchasing the pes again one may be satisfied that they are buying a quality product in terms of fun. The passing at first seems to be very detacted from the last game and surely taping a botton is no way that a game such to develp to score goals but it challenges any one with the control in their hand to be that more creative.
With only some of my ideas put forward I hope what i have said would be taken in consirderation before making rash statements
