How much would you pay for a trophy? After experiencing the anguish of watching your bitter rivals pull off a treble winning season with a core of homegrown talent would you swipe your black credit card? Real
After spending approximately $160 million on two players within the space of three days, Real Madrid’s apparent disregard for the current financial climate has waned quite a bit. This became apparent when they started their pursuit of David villa but refuse to meet the asking price for a player who clearly is consistently prolific in front of goal. David Villa and Higuain could be one of the deadliest striking partnerships in La Liga, rivaled only by Diego Forlan and Kun Aguero(if both parties stay at Athletico); and the mighty tripod of Barca, Messi, Eto’o and Henry.
They have also inadvertently and maybe unknowingly skewed the transfer market. I have been hearing some over the top prices for players. Two years ago a top striker would go for anywhere between 15-20 million, now everyone has a potential 40 million striker in their ranks. Where is all the money coming from? Certain football leagues are being plagued by debt yet these outrageous prices are being placed on sometimes mediocre players. On the flip side it could probably be a delaying tactic on the part of clubs to distract potential poachers of their talent.
Either way, I hope after all this money has been spent by the respective clubs that they get what they spent on. Whatever the outcome, next season should be very interesting.

I honestly think that these price tags being placed on the respective players are outrageous. 80 million for Ronaldo? really? he's that good.. I don't agree, anyone who saw the UCL 2009 final would agree that he is not a 80 million dollar player. Maybe because i think he's overrated I think this way. Another thing that puzzles me is buying players that wont fit into the style of ball you play. I dont see Kaka having the kind of impact that he has at Milan simply because of the system that the Galacticos play, he though is worth every penny.. but i think its a wrong move on his part and madrid. This team that Madrid is compiling is reminiscent of the one that included Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo, Raul. We rememeber they won NOTHING. I think though, it serves for a very interesting La Liga campaign this year. There is no problem on spending on having a start studded team, i think the real problem comes when u get the wrong ones.
