Ade-Ban-or????

This was an interesting weekend in terms of popular figures behaving badly in one form or another. Most notably was Emmanuel Adebayor’ celebration during the Manchester City vs. Arsenal fixture. There has been a huge uproar over this, with certain factions calling for him to be banned; I think a lot is being made of nothing and if anyone should be banned it should be the ‘fans’.

For the past week there has been a storm brewing in the lead up to this game. Apart from never really being accepted by the arsenal faithful, even when he was banging in goals for them at a blistering pace, Adebayor has always been seen as an outsider in that team. His relationship with the London club began deteriorating after his wage demands weren’t being met. Speculation began about his departure with a host of top flight clubs looking for his signature. He eventually ended up at Manchester city on a bumper deal. At this juncture the arsenal faithful should have focused on their current team and left Ade alone. Fans tend to forget that players are human as well, so when certain things are said they hurt and more times than not prompt a reaction, case in point Eric Cantona.

During the game he was kicked, pushed and unnecessarily hit during the 90 minutes yet nothing was made of this apart from the yellow card given to Song. Adebayor deservedly capped off his man of the match performance with a goal and proceeded to celebrate in front of the arsenal supporters. His alleged kick out at van Persie was very debatable, but wanting to ban him is too extreme. Emotions were high and to me it was just a culmination of all the taunting that he received during the match.

"I don't know what I have done wrong to get banned," said Adebayor in The Sun.

"I have not heard the police or FA want to talk to me. The club have not said anything."

Adebayor has apologized for his provocative celebration, but maintains that his actions were not premeditated.

He added: "It was silly to run up in front of the Arsenal fans. But these people have been insulting me all game.

"Even in the warm-up they were insulting me. They were saying things that are not nice to hear, personal things.

"I didn't plan it, not at all. I didn't even know that I would score. The way things were going from the warm-up, at the end it came into my head.

I saw this game and quite frankly dat Van Persie thing was an accident. Furthermore, I find what Van Persie said to the media very hurtful and sounded very vindictive. Celebrating a goal infront of the fans of the opposing side is nothing new. So... I backing Adey! You go boy!
