Yet Another Loss

The Soca Warriors game on Wednesday night was one that illustrated to me just how long the road is for that team to reach world class. As it is presently, I’m not sure that we can beat some of the PFL teams that are based on this small twin island. Our impotence in front of the goal together with the extreme lack of experience by our coaching staff was made all too apparent by a USA team that came for their 3 points. The disappointing home crowd was used as a means of protest by the sporting fans in this country. We cannot continue to sit idly by and watch what remains of our pride in the national team to be destroyed by lack of organization at the highest level for our senior team.

As a fan I was hurt after that game, not so much by the loss, but by the way our team crumbled under pressure; and also in no small part by the lack of support shown to the boys. The team has a captain but no true leaders. Without a Dwight Yorke or a Russel Latapy on the field the team looks brainless. Mind you this is not a call for these players to jump out of retirement to lead these boys, but rather a call for the current crop of players to step their game up.

Everyone has been talking about turning their attention to the Under 20 team that is currently representing us in Egypt, but there is still a way for them to go before they represent us at the senior level. If certain things are not remedied with this senior team now, who is to say that a new crop of players under the same ‘circumstances’ will fair better? Everyone needs to take ownership for their stake in the national team setup; I’m talking from the fans that go to the games all the way up to the minister of sport. We all need to become a lot more dedicated to our team.

as long as yorke and latapy are involved with the NT, trinidad will go nowhere...

if you think about it, those 2 were the protagonists in 1989..
that is 20 years!

so basically, in 20 years, the trinidad team has made zero progress..

I do not agree with the statement: "in 20 yrs, the trinidad team has made zero progress...". This is a very unfair and furthermore quite insulting.

They have not made the expected progress given the talent/experience available.

The experience players seem to be not able to effectively impart knowledge of the game and strategies for different opponents.

But what's more important is the mentality of the players.

I'm sorry... I just don't see a holistic drive towards excellence. Everything is not a party... a lime...

PASSION! Let's have passion for the game and do things right, not for what we can get out of it.
