So after witnessing real’s first slump of the season, I am left with more than a few questions. Real Madrid came up against a very resolute Sevilla team yesterday in what many would consider their first test for the season.
Madrid has been on an incredible run thus far, going into this match day as the only team in Europe with a 100% record thus far, granted they have not played any of the traditionally ‘big’ teams as yet. Real’s prized possession CR9 would miss this one through injury and if the papers were anything to go by, this shouldn’t be that much of a loss for the new Galacticos. In reality, it showed up all real’s shortcomings in a very intense 90 minutes of play.
The inclusion in Mr. Ronaldo did more than bolster real’s offence (I mean 5 goals in 4 games is no easy feat), but it also too the focus off of a backline that at times is clearly nonexistent. With all the focus that teams put on the number 9, the defensive incompetence of Marcelo and Sergio Ramos is usually overlooked. Against Sevilla, a team that has clearly done its homework, these frailties were exploited by a very willing Jesus Navas and Diego Perotti.
Manuel Pellegrini has a lot of work to do if this Madrid team is to challenge for any silverware this term. Without Ronaldo, Kaka looked frustrated being held down at every turn thus stifling the attack. Hopefully they can find some sort of balance before they meet FC Barcelona in the clasico on 29th November 2009. If not, we are in for another 6-2 master-class from Fútbol Club Barcelona.

Very interesting dissection. I missed this game, but now I'm keen to watch it.
Given that I usually agree with your judgements, we will just have to wait and see.
Barca looks solid enough. Still a lil skeptical of Zlatan.
