The New York Cosmos were once the biggest name in football in the US. They boasted the likes of Pele and Beckenbauer on their roster. The team dissolved in 1985, but are in the process of being reborn.
On August 5th, for the first time in 25 years a team will take the field carrying the New York Cosmos name. They will face English Champions Manchester United in Paul Scholes’ testimonial match. The Cosmos will be eliciting the help of some world class players as well, Patrick Viera, Fabio Cannavaro and Nicky Butt just to name a few, and will be managed by Eric Cantona. The match is set for August 5th from Manchester, and will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel at 2:30 PM ET.
