It’s always a sad state of affairs when a match is decided
by a referee’s inability to make the right decisions. The calls made by Mike Dean
today in the Chelsea Arsenal match will go down as some of the worst seen for the 2015/16 Premier League season. How he or any one of the
other 3 assistant referees missed Diego Costa’s initial felony is beyond me.
This however escalated and resulted in Costa receiving a yellow card and
Gabriel see red for kicking out at Mr. Costa.
As a neutral, this marred what was supposed to be a good
game of football for me. To see such blatant cheating going unpunished has left
a bitter taste in my mouth. Diego Costa has always been one of the more
physical players of the game, and this more than a few fans love, but when you
deliberately circumvent the laws of the game and are rewarded for it, we the
fans suffer.
Arsenal eventually ended the game with 9 men on the pitch
and Chelsea won the match 2-0. Had Mike Dean acted in a manner befitting one of
the Premier League’s top officials maybe the result would have been different.
